About The Festival

Saptasajya Festival 2022 is the Saptasajya Foundation’s endeavour to promote folk craftsand help the craftspeople experiment with new designs. The objective is to help improve the commercial value of these traditional crafts.

In its third edition, the festival will bring together 50 local artisans, art and design practitioners and students and marketeers in a four day experiential workshop.

The 2022 edition will be held on December 26-30 at Saptasajya in Odisha.

Be a mentor at Saptasajya Festival 2022

If you are design enthusiast with an interest in folk crafts, you may apply to be a mentor at 2022 festival. A a mentor you will work with a group of practicing artisans between October and December.

During this period you may need to visit them in their local village in Odisha or nearby states. During the festival days you will work closely with the artisans to produce products with good commercial potential.

About Saptasajya

The abode of seven hillsSaptasajya is located at a distance of 11 km, from the town of Dhenkanal, Odisha and for years been a local attraction for religious travelers and day picnic-ers.Two groups of award-winning Dhokra craftspeople live in the vicinity.

The quaint village finds its roots in mythology. Legend has it that the ashrams of Saptarshis, the seven holy saints, were in these forests. It is also believed that the Pandavas took shelter here during their exile.

Home to rare medicinal plants, orchids, pteridophytes, snakes, mammals, leopards, elephants and deer, the hamlet is known for its rich biodiversity and radiant forest spread. Wake up to chirping birds, bustling bees and lavish greens, by taking a road less travelled and exploring Saptasajya.

Saptasajya can be reached by road from Bhubaneswar, which is the nearest airport and 85 kilometers away. The nearest railway station with frequent connections from across India is at Cuttack which is 60 kilometers away.
